Sony Pictures Networks India purchased all of Essel’s sports channels under the Zee brand in August 2016. The TEN channels were rebranded as Sony TEN after the networks were formally combined with Sony’s pre-existing Sony ESPN and Sony Six channels in 2017 to establish the Sony Pictures Sports Network. The five channels now bore the “Sony Sports Ten” prefix after being renamed as the Sony Sports Network in October 2022.

With Abdul Rahman Bukhatir as a supporter, Taj Television Ltd. was established in Dubai in January 2001. Bukhatir was renowned for turning Sharjah into a significant international cricket venue and for having a variety of commercial ventures. On April 1, 2002, the corporation rebranded the channel as TEN Sports and included it in the Taj Entertainment Network. There were one hundred workers working for the company as of March 2004, with Chris McDonald serving as CEO.

Zee Telefilms Limited debuted Zee Sports in June 2005, purportedly making it the first private sports channel in India. For ₹800 crore (₹8,000,000,000), Zee Telefilms purchased a 50% share in TEN Sports in 2006; the remaining Indian operations were eventually bought by the company in 2010. The Essel Group, through its subsidiary Tower Sports, retained its businesses in Pakistan, which were not included in the deal.
